听力原文: People say that to get up early in three mornings is equal to one day of time. Early rising is beneficial in more than one way. First, it helps to keep us fit. We all need fresh air. But air is never so fresh as early in the morning. Besides, it improves our health to take our morning exercises.

Secondly, early rising helps us in our studies. In the morning our mind is clear, and we learn more quickly. We find it easier to memorize what we learn. The study is very efficient then.

Thirdly, early rising enables us to plan our work for the day. We cannot work well without a proper plan. Just as the plan for the year should be made in foe spring, so the plan for the day should be made in the morning.

Fourthly, early rising gives us enough time to get ready for our work, such as to brush our teeth, take a shower, get dressed, and eat our breakfast properly.

Finally, there is less traffic on the way. Buses and cars are not crowded, and there are less traffic jams. The fore, it takes less time to get to our schools and work places.

Late risers may find it very difficult to cultivate the habit of early rising. Since they already know the benefits of early rising, they ought to make up their minds and make a special effort to do so.

(30)

A.Early risers and late risers.

B.Benefits of early rising.

C.How to get up early.

D.How not to be late for work.

concept of man versus machine is at least as old as the industrial revolution, but this phenomenon tends to be most acutely felt during economic downturns and slow recoveries. Since technology has such a big 36 for eating up human jobs, this phenomenon will continue to restructure our economy in ways we cant immediately foresee. When there is exponential (指数的. 37 in the price and performance of technology, jobs that were once thought to be 38 from automation suddenly become threatened. This is a powerful argument, and a scary one. And yet, John Hagel, author of The Power of Pull and other books, says the argument misses the reason why these jobs are so vulnerable to technology in the first palce. Hagel says we have designed jobs in the U.S. that tend to be tightly scripted and highly 39 ones that leave no room for individual initiative or creativity. In short, these are the types of jobs that machines can 40 much better than human beings. That is how we have put a giant 41 sign on the backs of American workers. Its time to 42 the formula for how work is conducted, since we are still relying on a very 20thcentury 43 of work, Hagel says. In our 44 changing economy, we more than ever need people in the workplace who can take initiative and exercise their imagination to respond to 45 events. Thats not something machines are good at. They are designed to perform. very predictable activities.

听力原文: Penury was what people called a mystery man. We had known him for over seven years, ever since he became a member of our modest club, but he had a way of keeping his private life to himself in all but the unessential details. We knew his address, though he never invited us to his home, and his age, too, but only unimportant matters of this kind. It seemed that he did not have to work for a living as we did, in our various ways. He had once hinted about an inheritance on which he managed to live comfortably. He was not, however, a man of luxurious habits: he was not especially well dressed and he did not even have a car. At the age of forty-five he was still a bachelor though. Since marriage was not a subject he ever discussed, we had no means of finding out whether he regretted not having a wife.

Penury disappeared suddenly from our circle and shortly afterwards we came to learn the first really solid facts about our mystery man. From reports that appeared in the newspapers, together with photographs of the man who was without doubt, our Mr. Penury, it was revealed that he was the most accomplished burglar in the London area; and that he had practiced this profession for many years, until he was arrested and sent to prison.

(23)

A.Because nobody knew his address.

B.Because nobody knew his age.

C.Because Penury's private life was a secret.

D.Because Penury was still a bachelor at the age of forty-five.

听力原文:M: I am really excited at the prospect of starting my coming holiday!

W: It sounds good. It's a good idea to have relaxation after working so long.

M: Yes. I've been looking forward to it for ages. It seems such a long time since I had a holiday.

W: Then, what do you plan for the coming holiday?

M: You know, I have two kids. Both of them are keen on the idea of going camping.

W: Sounds great! Children are often active and like to have an adventure.

M: Absolutely. I like the idea, too.

W: You haven't decided where to go yet?

M: No, not exactly. Going abroad requires a large sum of money and I cannot afford it at the moment. Most probably I will choose a place not far from here so that we can go on a cycling tour.

W: Twenty days will be enough for your family to enjoy yourselves.

M: It would be far better if we could have a longer holiday. The holiday will last only two weeks. So we must seize every day to relax ourselves.

W: Still, two weeks is not bad. At least you are luckier than I am. We seldom have holidays because the bank seldom provides holidays for people who work for it.

M: As a teacher, I always keep busy with my teaching work and other work in the school. But the holiday provided by the school is good enough to recover my lost energy and give me refreshment.
