听力原文:M: Here we are. Brochures for one day excursions.

W: Mm. A riverboat trip. That looks interesting.

M: Yeah. It does. Where does it go? And how do we get to the river?

W: It says to go by bus to the river. That costs $ 5 per person each way. Then the boat gees along the river for 4 hours. And we can get a meal on the boat.

M: How much does it cost altogether?

W: Well, the boat trip costs $ 20 and the meal is extra if we want it. I suppose it's a hit expensive -- $ 30 each altogether, and that's not counting the food and drinks.

M: Yes. It would be relaxing but it is a bit expensive.

W: You're right. What about horse riding or cycling? Can you ride a horse?

M: Not very well. I've only ridden a horse twice in my life. How much does it cost?

W: Let me see. Horse riding is a bit expensive too -- $ 30 for 2 hours. And we'd have to go there by bus. And that would be an extra cost.

M: Er, what about cycling? That shouldn't be tm expensive. Here we are, err, mountain bikes for hire. $ 30 a day. But $ 20 of that is a deposit and you can get it back when you return the bike. I wonder how far away the cycle hire place is.

W: No. It's not far at all. I'll show you...

M: That's terrific. Cycling looks the best, doesn't it? That should give us enough exercise. And we can take our own lunch and have a picnic. Now all we have to do is to decide which direction to cycle in.

W: Great. Let's go. We can talk about that while we're walking to the hire place.

Passage One

Questions 17 to 19 are based on the passage you have just heard.

听力原文:

Passage One I first met Joe Gans when we were both nine years old, which is probably the

only reason he’s one of my best friends. If I had first met Joe as a freshman in high

school, we wouldn’t even have had the chance to get to know each other. Joe is a day

student, but I am a boarding student. We haven’t been in the same classes, sports, or

extracurricular activities.

Nonetheless, I spend nearly every weekend at his house and we talk on the phone every

night. This is not to say that we would not have been compatible if we had first met in our

freshman year. Rather, we would not have been likely to spend enough time getting to know

each other due to the lack of immediately visible mutual interests. In fact, to be honest,

I struggle even now to think of things we have in common. But maybe that’s what makes us

enjoy each other’s company so much. When I look at my friendship with Joe, I wonder how

many people I’ve known whom I never disliked, but simply didn’t take the time to get to

know. Thanks to Joe, I have realized how little basis there is for the social divisions

that exist in every community. Since this realization, I have begun to make an even more

determined effort to find friends in unexpected people and places.

Questions 17to 19 are based on the passage you have just heard.

17. Why does the speaker say Joe Gans became one of his best friends?

A.They shared mutual friends in school.

B.They had many interests in common.

C.They shared many extracurricular activities.

D.They had known each other since childhood.

听力原文:W: Snowboarding's so popular now—everyone's doing it. It's taking over from skiin
g in some resorts.

M: Come to think of it, how much are lessons? I presume you can get those here, too.

W: You bet. (23) It's 125 dollars a day for one to one instruction, 3 hours in the morning, and 3 in the afternoon. Personally, I'd recommend learning as part of a group, though. It's more fun, and it's quite a bit cheaper. It depends on what you prefer. That's 76 dollars per person, for the same number of hours as individual instruction.

M: That's a good deal. Does that include equipment hire?

W: Well, since you're our first customer of the season, we might just throw that in.

M: Fantastic. We'll definitely see you next week. Oh, one more thing. Is off-peak season still until the end of November?

W: Yes, and then for the whole of March. Oh, hang on. No, the seasons have changed a bit. I can't believe I forgot. The centre is closed from the beginning of April to the end of September. Off-peak's from the 1st October until the 10th December, and then peak season is around Christmas and New Year. Post Christmas off-peak season is also the whole of February and March.

M: Yeah. (24) So peak season is from the 11th December until...?

W: (24) From the 11th December until the 31st January. Lots of school groups in January, even though it's 50% more expensive than off-peak season.

M: (25) So we're getting a good deal by turning up at the start of the season.

W: Definitely. It's a good idea anyway—word hasn't really got around that everything's up and running, and most people are at work, so you get the slopes pretty much to yourself.

Questions:23. How much do snowboarding lessons cost one day?

24.When is the peak season?

25.What is the man probably going to do?

(20)

A.125 dollars a day for individual instruction.

B.67 dollars a person for group instruction.

C.76 dollars a day for individual instruction.

D.Individual instruction is quite a bit cheaper.

听力原文: I say to you today, my friends, even though we face the difficulties of the day and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "we hold these truths to be selfevident: that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day down in Alabama, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, one day right here in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low. The rough places will be made plain, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

We holds these truths to be self evident that______.

A.all men are created equal

B.every one has the right of receiving education

C.both whites and blacks are the sons of God

D.all men are the sons of God

听力原文:W: Is there anything else we ought to discuss?

M: We haven't discussed heating yet. Do you like central heating?

W: Yes, but isn't it rather expensive? First costs, I mean--the furnace, and the boiler, all the pipes and radiators?

M: That depends on the system. An automatically controlled oil-burning system is rather expensive.

W: Electric fires are no cheaper. We have them in the bedrooms, and the electricity bills are always high at the end of the winter.

M: What about open fires?

W: I like to see a fire. But coal fires do make a lot of work and a lot of dust, too.

M: You may have a furnace in the kitchen, and a storage tank upstairs. A furnace that bums coke is much cheaper than one that bums oil. A good one would give you all the hot water you need for the kitchen and for baths, and enough for two radiators in the living room.

W: Oh, I know what you mean. They have to be filled twice a day, don't they?

M: Yes, and you have to clear out the ashes once a day.

W: How much does coke cost?

M: They bum three or four tons a year. I'm not sure how much coke costs now--about £ 20 a ton, perhaps.

W: That's t £11.25 or more a week--for all the hot water, and for heating the living room in winter. That's cheaper than any other system I know.

M: And very little work, too.

W: Great, let's do it.

(20)

A.Electricity bills.

B.The cost of living.

C.The heating system.

D.Types of energy.

Sociologists (社会学家) tell us that we are heading for a society leisure. The trend is unmistakable. One hundred years ago, they point out a worker put in twelve or thirteen hours a day, six days a week, and week followed week without an annual vacation. But over the years the picture has changed. Today the typical work week has five eight-hour days, and workers enjoy about three weeks of paid vacation every year, with the result that today me spend less than as much time on the job as people did before.

In spite of this, today's worker may not feel that he has a great deal of leisure time. This is because a lot of the non-work time is taken up with fulfilling family and social obligations. For example, he feels that he should spend some time with his children every day, and if a man does physical activity in his job, that too cuts into his free time.

Nevertheless, the final result is that we do have more leisure-more time free from the obligation of work or any other social requirement. Leisure is time not used to earn money or to do things around the house which save money. It is time spent only in seeking satisfaction, and we give up what we are doing when it no longer satisfies us. Leisure gives us the opportunity to recover from the physical and mental fatigue (疲倦) of work and it frees our creative talents from the pressure placed on us by the job.

Today's leisure is time programmed for doing what you want to. It does not have to be made up the next day. This is something new. It really frees a person from the workshop to enjoy, for a time, things in which he is interested. Man is about to go out to the playground.

People have ______ today.

A.more leisure

B.less work

C.less leisure

D.more work
