About one hundred yards along the path we got to a deep valley, on the far side of which t
he path led into some very thick bushes. Rather than go through these, I decided that if we walked a- long the bottom of this valley we could climb up again and rejoin the path on the far side of the bushes.

As I climbed down into the valley a bird flew off a rock on which I had put my hand. On looking at the spot where the bird had risen I saw two eggs. They were a kind that I did not have in my collection, so I placed them carefully in my bag, wrapped in a little dry grass.

As we went further down the valley the sides became steeper and not far from where I had entered it. I came to a drop of about twelve to fourteen feet. The water that rushed down all these small valleys in the rainy season had made the rock as glass. As it was too deep to climb down, I handed my gun to one of the men and slid down it. My feet had hardly touched the sandy bottom when the two men jumped down, one on each side of me. They quickly gave me the gun and asked me if I had heard the tiger. Actually, I had heard nothing, perhaps because of the noise I made sliding down the rock. The men said they had heard a tiger growling somewhere nearby, but they did not know from which direction the noise had come.

According to the passage we know that_________.

A.the writer decided to push through the thick bushes

B.the writer decided to walk along the valley

C.the writer wanted to stop climbing

D.the writer tried to find two eggs

M: Wait, wait, wait! You got to stop here, 15,000 RMB for a portable computer?

W: Well, it's very, very nice. It looks so wonderful and I think it will be of great help to me.

W: Well, I'm going to use it for a lot of purposes. Well, I'll use it for programming, of course. And for some.., entertainments. Uh... so, in other words, I'll just enjoy the music and movies through it.

M: Sounds great.

W: What's more, you know, I can take it to library and download some useful information through linking to the internet. That can save me a lot of time and energy.

M: Yes, but, but can you afford it?

W: Well, no, I think I'm going to have to save up for it. And I'm not sure exactly how to find answers to it... I think it's going to take me probably six months before I can save up for it.

We walked so quietly that the nurse at the desk didn't even lift her eyes from the book. M
um pointed to a big chair by the door and I knew she wanted me to have a seat. While I watched, mouth open in surprise, mum took off her hat and coat and gave them to me to hold. She walked quietly to the small room by the lift and took out a wet mop(拖把). She pushed the mop past the desk and as the nurse looked up, mum nodded and said, "Very dirty floors."

"Yes. I'm glad they've finally decided to clean them," the nurse said. She looked at mum strangely and said," But aren't you working late?"

Mum just pushed harder, each swipe(拖) of the mop taking her farther and farther down the hall. I watched until I couldn't see her and the nurse had turned back to write in the big book.

After a long time mum came back. Her eyes were shining. She rapidly put the mop back and took my hand. As we turned to go out of the door, mum nodded politely to the nurse and said, "Thank you."

Outside, mum told me. "Dagmar is fine. No fever."

"You saw her, mum?"

"Of course. I told her about the hospital rules, and she will not expect us until tomorrow. Dad will stop worrying as well. It's a fine hospital. But such floors! A mop is no good. You need a brush."

When she took a mop from the small room what mum really wanted to do was______.

A.to clean the floor

B.to please the nurse

C.to see a patient

D.to surprise the storyteller

听力原文:W: Hi, how is everything? Are you ready for the party?

M: Yes, just about. It's been crazy trying to organize everything, we haven't even started to think about the wedding yet!

W: There are lots of things to think about. Has she chosen her dress yet?

M: I think she has decided about the dress, but of course, I can't see it before the wedding. It's bad luck if I do.

W: Have you bought the wedding rings yet?

M: Yes, I found some beautiful ones in a magazine, I'm having them made now.

W: Emily is a great girl, and very pretty. Does she have any good looking brothers?

M: Hey! Stop thinking about that and help me. I have booked the function room at "Tequilas", ordered the food, and booked the band. They are going to play Mexican music, to go with the theme of the food and the place.

W: So, that's everything, right? You said that Emily was arranging the invitations, so everything is ready.

M: No! I haven't ordered the drink. What should we serve?

W: Well, if you are going to party, do it in style. Champagne! And some Mexican drinks, to keep with the Mexican theme. You can ask the restaurant to sort it our for you.

M: It's a good thing I got that promotion, with all of this money coming out I'm really going to need that pay rise!
