阅读短文,从A、B、C三个选项中选出一个正确答案。

DEMAND FOR ELDERLY CARE SERVICES IN CHINA RISING RAPIDLY

The number of elderly people aged above 60 increased. Demand for elderly care services in China will continue to rise due to the increasing aging population. The number of elderly people aged above 60 was over 200 million in 2012, and will be 300 million in 2025 and 400 million in 2034, according to experts.

It will be a tough challenge for China to deal with, due to the increasing rates of urbanization and a DECREASING birth rate. The Chinese people will be facing a big challenge if we do not have enough money when we get older.

The United Nations defines an aging society as one that has 10 percent of its population at or above the age of 60.

When most developed countries were classed as an aging society, their gross domestic product (GDP) per capita stood at between 5,000 to 10,000 U.S. dollars or above. However, China became an aging society in 2001, and its GDP per capita was only 1,000 U.S. dollars. It was 6,000 U.S. dollars in 2012. China’s economic foundation for an elderly society is fragile.

On Sept. 13.2013, the State Council issued a guideline to speed up the development of China’s elderly care services, hoping to complete a social care network for its elderly by 2025.

听力原文: Governments throughout the world make public reports about the condition of thei
r economics. Most do this by measuring the value of their countries' yearly production of goods and services. Some countries including the Unites States have used a measure called the "gross national product" or GNP. It includes all goods and services produced by citizens of the country anywhere in the world. Recently the American Commerce Department began using a new method to measure production. The new method is known as the "gross domestic product" or GDP, It counts only goods and services that have been produced within the nation's borders. Earnings by foreign-owned companies operating in the United States are included in the GDP. But earnings of American companies operating in other countries are not. Economic experts generally approve of the change. They say the gross domestic product provides a truer measure of the economy. They also note that most other industrial countries use this method. Therefore, they say, it will be easier to study the economies of different countries. Some officials also say the new system will help them to make better economic policy decisions. They say it will provide them with a clear understanding of economic activity in the United States. The new measure, officials say, is less likely to be affected by sadden changes in foreign oil prices or in the value of the American dollar in other countries. Economic experts say the changes from GNP to GDP reduces the value of American production by at least 40,000 million dollars a year, but that is really a very small change in the American economy, less than one percent.

According to this passage, what is exactly GDP?

A.It's a new method to measure a country's production.

B.It's a way to study the economies of different countries.

C.It's a new system to help make economic decisions.

D.It's a means to understand a country's economic changes.

听力原文: The United States has the largest economy in the world (32). The size of an economy is usually described in terms of the Gross Domestic Product. The Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, is the value of all goods and services produced in a country in a year. In 2004, the United States had a GDP estimated at close to 12 million million dollars. What percentage of that was agriculture (32) (33)? The government says just 9/10 of one percent (33). Farm workers make up an even smaller percentage of American labor: 7/10 of one percent.

In 2004, almost 20 percent came from industry--and almost 80 percent came from services. The number of farms continues to decrease in America, whereas farm earnings have risen to record levels in recent years. Agricultural productivity continues to increase because of new technology and methods(34). But the Agriculture Department estimates that 9 percent of farm income last year came from government payments. That number is expected to decrease in the future.

Exports have provided American farmer farmers with an average of about 25 percent of their money for the last fifteen years. Canada and Mexico are two of the three biggest markets for American farmers. In fact, in 2002, Canada replaced Japan for the first time as the top buyer of American agricultural exports(35). The Department of Agriculture says exports to the European Union are slowing. But exports to other countries within the Americas and to Asia are growing.

(33)

A.American agriculture.

B.American industry.

C.American GDP.

D.American economy.
