On the morning of the first day, when he saw a woman coming towards the door of tire agency, he immediately opened the door for her and began to describe the tour. "The bus leaves Fairfield at 9:30. It's air-conditioned and very comfortable. We first take you down to the old harbor. From there we drive along the coast and through an old residential area. At 12:30, we go to the Park Restaurant for a first-class meal. Then we go to the zoo in the park. From 3 till 5 we show you the shops in the old town, where you can buy traditional handicrafts, jewellery and pottery. We then go to the area where you can visit the natural history museum and the art gallery. Finally we come back along 8th Avenue, past the concert hall and theaters. You can count on a really wonderful day. "At last he stopped. The woman smiled and thanked him very much. Then she said she had lived in the town all her life and thought his description was very good. However, she only wanted to know what time the next bus left for Green Valley.

听力原文: Sekou Coumbassa is a diplomat who represents one of the new African nations. At present he is working on special assignment to his country's embassy in Washington. Like many African diplomats, he is very young--only twenty-eight years old. Before coming to Washington, he had had a year of diplomatic experience in another African country and then one more year in Paris. Sekou speaks two African languages. In addition, he speaks French fluently because it is the language used in the secondary schools in his country. He also studied English when he was in school. When he first came to Washington, his English was stiff and formal. It sounded like English that had been learned from a book. Sekou has an aptitude for language, however, it was one of the reasons he became a diplomat. After six months in Washington, he had become fluent in English. Sekou is in charge of cultural affairs for the embassy. The ambassador that Sekou works for is quite impressed with his work and has recommended him highly to the government at home. Sekou is very happy, he hopes to be an ambassador himself some day in the future.

learned to use it 32 . He has done it by exploring, by experimenting, by developing
his own model of the grammar of language, by 33 and seeing whether it works, by
gradually changing it and 34 it until it does work. And while he has been doing this,
he has been learning other things as well, including many of the “ 35 ” that the
schools think only they can teach him, and many that are more complicated than the ones
they do try to teach him.
