听力原文: For all its benefits, television's influence has been extremely harmful to the young. Children do not have enough experience to realize that TV shows present an unreal world; that commercials lie in order to sell products that are sometimes bad or useless. They believe and want to imitate what they see. They do believe that they will make more friends if they use a certain soap, or some other product. By the time they are out of high school, most young people have watched about 15,000 hours of television, and have seen about 18,000 killings or other acts of violence. How could they be choked to see the same in real life? All educators and psychologists agree that they "television generations" are more violent than their parents and grandparents. It is certain that television has deeply transformed our lives and our society. It is certain that, along with its benefits, it has brought enormous problems. To those problems we must soon find a solution because—whether we like it or not—television is here to stay.

(33)

A.Television's bad effects on the young.

B.Television's bad effects on society in general.

C.The history of television.

D.The good sides of television.

Ann : Ben!

Ben : Yes?

Warden : Is this your car, sir?

Ben : Oil, My! Well, I'm sorry, sir. I'm just looking for a ear pork around.

听力原文:Alan: I'm really worried about Jeremy these days. He looks tired.

Ben: He's a workaholic, you know. Works all the time, night and day.

Alan: I know he puts in a lot of hours. He's always here no matter what time I arrive.

Ben: The boss seems to think it's a good thing, but I'm not so sure.

Alan: When does Jeremy get time to relax?

Ben: That's just the point, he doesn't. He's always thinking about work. It's mined his life. He never saw his children because he was always home late and he left early in the morning.

Alan: What happened?

Ben: He and his wife separated. She'll probably get a divorce.

Alan: That's high price to pay.

Ben: I guess some people can't see the value of a balanced life. If you try to talk with Jeremy, he's always more comfortable with talking about work, he can't really talk about anything else.

Alan: That's kind of sad.

Ben: The trouble is, Jeremy doesn't see it that way. He just gets lots of work done and he actually enjoys it.

Alan: It will tell in the end though. He's putting too much stress on himself. There's more to life than work. If your life consists only of work then I believe there's a psychological problem.

Ben: That's possible. Maybe his boss should have a talk with him.

Alan: But who is going to tell him to do that?

(27)

A.In an office.

B.At a supermarket.

C.At home.

D.At a railway station.

听力原文: Cambridge must be one of the best-known towns in the world, and can be found on most tourists' lists of places to visit. The main reason for its fame is its universities which started during the 13th century and grew steadily. Until today there are more than twenty colleges.

The oldest college is Peterhouse, which was founded in 1284, and the most recent is Robinson College, which was opened in 1977. The most famous is probably King's College, because of its magnificent church.

The university was exclusively for men until 1871 when the first women's college was opened. Another was opened two years later and a third in 1954. In the 1960s, most colleges opened their doors to both men and women. Almost all the colleges are now mixed, but it will be many years before there are equal numbers of both sexes.

What is the main reason why Cambridge is one of the best-known towns in the world?

A.Because it is a favorite place for tourists.

B.Because it has a famous university.

C.Because the town was started in the 13th century.

D.Because the university has twenty well-known colleges.

听力原文:In many parts of the world, farmers and their families live in villages or towns.

听力原文: In many parts of the world, farmers and their families live in villages or towns. In the United States, however, each farm family lives on its own fields, often beyond the sight of any neighbors. Instead of traveling from a village to the fields every morning, American farmers stay on their land throughout the week. They travel to the nearest town on Saturdays for shopping or on Sundays for church. The children ride on buses to large schools which serve all of the farm families living in the area. In some areas, there are small schools serving a few farm families, and the children walk to school.

Of course life keeps changing for everyone, including farmers. Today there are cars, good roads, radios, and television sets. And of course there are modern machines for farming. All of these have changed farm life.

For many years, however, farming in America was often a lonely way of living. Farmers had to deal with their own problems, instead of getting help from others. They learned to try new methods, and to trust their own ideas instead of following older ways.

(30)

A.They live in bigger houses.

B.They live in villages or in towns.

C.Each family lives on its own fields.

D.They use modern machines in farming.

听力原文:As is known to all, scientists and philosophers had studied the human body and it

听力原文: As is known to all, scientists and philosophers had studied the human body and its functions from very early times. Unfortunately, many of the ideas and theories, correct and incorrect, were accepted without question for a great number of years. But by the 16th century, knowledge gained through chemical experiments was beginning to make some people think more deeply about how the human body works.

A most important medical discovery was made by William Harvey in 1628. He found out that the blood is circulated round the body in one direction only by the pumping action of the heart. It had previously been incorrectly thought that the blood moved with a backward and forward motion.

Early in the 17th century a new instrument came into use that was to open up a whole new area in the study of medical and scientific matters. This was the microscope.

The first instruments were not very efficient. They were able to magnify only a very small part of the object and this was always surrounded by rings of colored light. Nevertheless a great step forward had been taken which was of vital importance for future research and development.

(30)

A.Scientists and philosophers had never studied the human body and its functions.

B.Many of the ideas and theories that people used to accept were all incorrect.

C.People used to accept ideas and theories.

D.People used to accept undoubtedly many of the ideas and theories, correct and incorrect.

听力原文:Some students at the Open University left school 20 years ago. Others are younger

听力原文: Some students at the Open University left school 20 years ago. Others are younger but all must be at least 21 years old. This is one example of how the Open University is different from all other universities. Its students must either work full-time or be at home all day, for instance, mothers of families. They do not have to pass any examinations before they are accepted as students. This is why the university is called "open". The university vas started in order to help a known group—people who missed having a university education when they were young.

The first name for the Open University was "The University of the Air". The idea was to teach "on the air", in other words, on radio and television. Most of the teaching is done like this. Radio and television have brought the classroom into people's homes. But this, on its own, is not enough for a university education. The Open University student also received advice at one of the 283 study centers in the country. In 36 weeks of the year he has to send written work to a "tutor", the person who guides his studies. He must also spend 3 weeks every summer as a full-time student. Tutors and students meet and study together, as in other universities. At the end of the Open University's first year, the results were good. Three out of every 4 students passed their examinations. If they do this every year, they will finish their studies in 4 or 5 years.

(33)

A.Because it isn't closed.

B.Because its door is open.

C.Because the students have to pass all examinations before entering it.

D.Because there is no examination before they are accepted as students.
