听力原文: Some people don't like any thing to be out of place. They are never late for work; they return their books to the library on time; they remember people's birthdays and they pay their bills as soon as they arrive. Mr. Brown is such a person. Mr. Brown works in a bank, and lives on his own. His sister lives in the next town with her husband, and her son, Mark. Mr. Brown doesn't see his sister or her family from one year to the next, but he sends them Christmas cards, and he hasn't forgotten one of Mark's seventeen birthdays.

Last week Mr. Brown had quite a surprise. He drove home from the bank at the usual time; driving neither too slowly nor too fast, he parked his car where he always parked it, out of the way of other cars, and he went inside to make his evening meal. Just then there was a knock at the door. When he opened it, he found a policeman standing there. Mr. Brown asked himself. "Have I driven on the wrong side of tile road? Has there been some trouble at the bank? Have I forgotten to pay an important bill?"

"Hello, uncle," said the policeman, "My name's Mark."

(30)

听力原文: If you don't use your antis or your legs for some time, they become weak, when you use them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works the same way.

When someone .says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When some- one else says that his memory is poor, he means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.

If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame, and few of us know that it is just his own fault.

Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things; they cannot write them in a little notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised.

So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people; practice remembering.

(23)

A.His father or mother may have a poor memory.

B.His memory is not often used.

C.He does not use his arms and legs for some time.

D.He cannot read or write.

听力原文: Good morning everybody. My topic for today is"Early Money". I'm going to tell you some- thing about money used in the early days. Per- haps the most common money of all was an animal of some kind. In some places today, cows are still used as a kind of money. So you see, things highly valued by everybody may serve as mon- ey.

The Chinese were the first people to use coins as money. Oh, sorry, you don’t know this word? Well it is spelled C - O - I - N. Here are some coins of the past. You can come over and have a look.

听力原文:Most young married couples in the United States share their duties and responsibi

听力原文: Most young married couples in the United States share their duties and responsibilities both inside and outside the home. The reason for this is that they both usually have a job. Most of the young married people have to work in order to plan for their future years. For example, some people might plan for a comfortable home, some others may plan for a family and their children's education, and still some others may generally want to save for a better living.

Since a woman helps financially, a man feels that he should help his wife in the home. He may help her with the cleaning by lifting heavy furniture. Also, he may often wash and dry the dinner dishes, because his wife has to take care of the children. This usually surprises people of other cultures, because they consider it beneath the dignity of a man to help his wife, or in other words, a man shouldn't do a woman's job. In American life, however, this is just another way of showing the respect that men and women have for each other.

(30)

A.Because both husband and wife have their own jobs.

B.Because they have a lot to take care of.

C.Because their parents don't usually help.

D.Because they have more than one kid to bring up.

听力原文:M: Hi, Christie, I brought you some tea.

W: Thanks, Mark. Too bad it's not apple tea, like in Turkey.

M: You really liked living in Turkey, didn't you?

W: Yeah, it was great.

M: How do you like the food in Turkey, Christie?

W: Oh, the food was fantastic! But people always expected me to eat too much, and I gained a lot of weight there!

M: Yes, it's so polite to be generous. We think people aren't polite if they don't offer a lot of food.

W: I know. I also learnt that it's not polite for the guest to accept the offer of food at first.

M: Yes, that's definitely true! If you're the guest, you must refuse the first two offers of food.

W: The first time I had dinner at a Turkish home, I felt rude to refuse. So I ate all the food the host offered me.

M: Do you know how to stop the host from offering you food? You must leave some food on your plate. Then the host knows that you're full.

W: Oh, is that the trick? In the United States, we usually eat everything. You don't want the host to think that you don't like the food.

M: That is the difference.

W: Americans think it's not polite to insist. We don't want to force you to eat more if you don't want more.

Where are these two speakers from respectively?

A.The man is from the US and the woman is from Turkey.

B.The man is from Turkey and the woman is from the US.

C.Both are from the US.

D.Both are from Turkey.

听力原文: Were you the first or the last child in your family? Or were you a middle or an only child? Some people think it matters where you were born in your family. But there are different ideas about what birth order means. Some people say that oldest children are smart and strong-willed. They are very likely to be successful (29) . The reason for this is simple. Parents have a lot of time for their first child; they give him or her a lot of attention. So this child is very likely to do well. An only child will succeed for the same reason. What happens to the other children in the family? Middle children don't get so much attention, so they don't feel that important (30) . If a family has many children, the middle one sometimes gets lost in the crowd. The youngest child, though, often gets special treatment. He or she is the baby. Often this child grows up to be funny and charming. Do you believe these ideas about birth order too? A recent study saw things quite differently. The study found that first children believed in family rules. They didn't take many chances in their lives. They usually followed orders. Rules didn't mean as much to later children in the family. They went out and followed their own ideas. They took chances and they often did better in life (31) .

(30)

A.They strongly believes in family rules.

B.They are very likely to succeed in life.

C.They tend to take responsibility for themselves.

D.They are in the habit of obeying their parents.
