听力原文: Although we are told when young that honesty is the best policy, we are often taught the opposite by experience and observation. A child quickly learns that she cannot always tell the truth. For instance, the little girl who tells her great aunt that she's fat and ugly learns that honesty can have some unfortunate results. Similarly the five-year-old who admits to pinching the baby soon has ample evidence that dishonesty might be the real virtue. In addition to her own experience, the child also observes that adults don't practice what they preach about honesty. Any alert child knows by the age of eight that adults really employ the little white lie to serve their own purposes. For instance, a child may hear a parent explain on the phone that his family have a lot of company when the child knows that no one is there but family members. Another child may hear her mother insist that she's terribly glad to see an old friend who has dropped by and then, two hours later, hear her mother complain about her day being interrupted by the visit. As a result, the child learns from watching that dishonesty is the practice even when honesty is the stated policy.

In the world there are different forms of family groups. In modem western societies(社会), a family group is usually small, made up of a man, his wife, and his children. About a hundred years ago, it was usually a little larger than this. Unmarried(未婚的) sons and daughters were part of the family even after they were grown up. Now unmarried sons and daughters do not always live with their parents after they begin to work. They often live in their own houses or rooms.
In other societies, family groups are quite different. In some places, a man may have more than one wife. When two or more wives live together with their husband in the same home, brothers or sisters (or both) have the same father but different mothers. In these families the younger children sleep in their mother's rooms, but all the older boys may sleep together in a large room and all the older girls in another.
The first wife often has a special(特殊的) place in this kind of family. Her husband asks for her suggestion when he takes his other wives, and she tells them what work they must do.
A modem western family is usually made up of a husband, a wife and their children.
A.Right.
B.Wrong.

听力原文: If you don't use your antis or your legs for some time, they become weak, when you use them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works the same way.
When someone .says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When some- one else says that his memory is poor, he means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.
If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame, and few of us know that it is just his own fault.
Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things; they cannot write them in a little notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised.
So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people; practice remembering.
