听力原文: When my husband was promoted, we put our house up for sale. Three weeks later, it was still on the market. I became a busy housekeeper. Every room had to be kept tidy and dishes had to be washed and put away when used. Then one day, the door bell rang unexpectedly at 8 am. Sleepily I opened the door and saw our agent standing there with a couple from New York. "There was no time to call," he explained, "the couple has to catch a plane home." The three people made their way past the dirty breakfast dishes on the kitchen table and entered a bedroom with unmade beds. As I retreated into a bathroom to comb my hair, I heard the man say something to his wife. Then they both laughed. Two days later the agent phoned to tell me that the couple had bought the house. He repeated what the couple had said when he handed over the check the following day, "That house has a warm lived-in feeling just like ours."

I got on the first bus that passed, rode on it for several stops, then got off it and walked on. The first two hours passed pleasantly enough. Then I decided to turn back to my hotel for lunch. After walking about for some time, I decided I had better ask the way. The trouble was that the only word I knew of the language was the name of the street in which I lived and even that I pronounced badly.
I stopped to ask a friendly-looking newspaper-seller. He smiled and handed me a paper. I shook my head and repeated the name of the street but he put the paper into my hands. I had to give him some money and went on my way. The next person I asked was a policeman. The policeman listened to me carefully, smiled and gently took me by the arm. There was a strange look in his eyes, as he pointed left and right and left again. I thanked him politely and began walking in the direction he pointed.
About an hour passed and I noticed that the house was getting fewer and fewer and green fields were appearing on either side of me. I had come all the way into the countryside. The only thing left for me to do was to find the nearest railway station.

听力原文: I didn't know the city at all and what is more, I couldn't speak a word of the language. However, I decided to try out the pleasure of adventure. I got on a bus and it took me to a place that appeared to be a suburb.
I was fascinated by its pure natural scenery and the little book-stores I found in back streets. Time passed quickly and it was time to go back to my hotel for lunch. After walking aimlessly for some time, I determined to ask the way.
I first asked a friendly-looking newspaper-seller. He smiled and handed me a paper. I shook my head and repeated the name of the street and he thrust the paper into my hands. Hopelessly, I gave him the money and went on my way. The next person I asked was an old lady buying vegetables. She was very hard of hearing. I kept repeating the name of the street into her ear. When she finally heard me, she seemed to take offence and began shouting and shaking her walking-stick at me. I hurried away quickly. In frustration, I was overwhelmed with the delight of seeing a policeman on the comer. Gently he took me by the arm and pointed left and right and left again. I nodded politely and began walking in the direction he pointed. About an hour later I found myself between large fields of green crops. I had come all the way into the country.

B.He asked the wrong people.

Unfortunately, Windows had been in the midst of a delicate and crucial undertaking. The next morning, when I turned my computer back on, it informed me that a file had been corrupted and Windows would not load. Then, it offered to repair itself by using the Windows Setup CD.
I opened the special drawer where I keep CDs, but no Windows CD in there. I was forced to call the computer company' s Global Support Centre. My call was answered by a woman in some unnamed, far-off land. I find it annoying to make small talk with someone when I don't know what continent they' re standing on. Suppose I were to comment on the beautiful weather we've been having when there was a monsoon at the other end of die phone? So I got right to the point
"My computer is telling me a file is corrupted and it wants to fix itself, but I don't have the Windows Setup CD. "
"So you're having a problem with your Windows Setup CD. " She has apparently been dozing and, having come to just as the sentence ended, was attempting to cover for her inattention.
It quickly became clear that the woman was not a computer technician. Her job was to serve as a gatekeeper, a human shield for the technicians. Her sole duty, as far as I could tell, was to raise global stress levels.
To make me disappear, the woman gave me the phone number for Windows' creator, Microsoft. This is like giving someone the phone number for, I don't know, North America. Besides, the CD worked; I just didn't have it. No matter how many times I repeated my story, we came back to the same place. She was calm and resolutely polite.
When my voice hit a certain decibel(分贝), I was passed along, like a hot, irritable potato, to a technician.
"You don't have the Windows Setup CD, ma' am, because you don't need it, " he explained cheerfully.
"Windows came preinstalled on your computer!"
"But I do need it
" Yes, but you don't have it. " We went on like this for a while. Finally, he offered to walk me through the use of a different CD, one that would erase my entire system. " Of course, you' d lose all your e-mail, your documents , your photos. " It was like offering to drop a safe on my head to cure my headache. " You might be able to recover them, but it would be expensive. " He sounded delighted. "And it' s not covered by the warranty(产品保证 书)!" The safe began to seem like a good idea, provided it was full.
I hung up the phone and drove my computer to a small, friendly repair place I' d heard about. A smart, helpful man dug out a Windows CD and told me it wouldn't be a problem. An hour later, he called to let me know it was ready. I thanked him, and we chatted about the weather, which was the same outside my window as it was outside his.
Why did the author shut down her computer abruptly?
A.She had saved what she had written.
B.She couldn't move the cursor.
C.The computer refused to work.
D.The computer offered to repair itself.

some reason said: “I wish all of the white students to stand for a moment.” I rose with the others. The teacher looked at me and, calling my name, said: “You sit down for the present, and rise with the others.” I did not quite understand her.She repeated: “You sit down now, and rise with the others.” I sat down puzzled.I saw and heard nothing. When the other were asked to rise, I did not know it.When school was dismissed, I went out unconsciously.A few of the white boys laughed at me, saying: “Oh, you’re a nigger, too.”
I hurried on as fast as I could to where my looking-glass hung on the wall in my own little room. For an instant I was afraid to look, but when I did, I looked long and earnestly.I was accustomed t o hearing remarks about my beauty, but now, for the first time, I became conscious of it and recognized it.I noticed the ivory(象牙)whiteness of my skin, the beauty of my mouth, the size and the liquid darkness of my eyes.I ran downstairs and rushed to wh ere my mother was sitting.I buried my head in her lap and cried out: “Mother, tell me, am I a nigger?” I could not see her face, but I felt her hands on my head.I looked up into her face. There were tears in her eyes and I could see that she was sufferin g for me.And then it was that.
I looked at her critically for the first time.I had thought of her in a childish way only as the most beautiful woman in the world; now I looked at her searching for defects(缺点).I could see that her skin was almost brown, and that she did differ in some way from the other ladies who came to the house; yet, even so I could see that she was more beautiful than any of them. She must have felt that I was examining her, for she hid her face in my hair and said with difficulty:“No, my darling, you are not a nigger.” She went on: “If anyone calls you a nigger, don’t notice them.”
But the more she talked, the less was I reassured, and I stopped her by asking:“Well, mother, am I white? Are you white?” She answered tremblingly(颤抖的): “No, I am not white, but your father is one of the greatest men in the country. The best blood of the South is in you.” This suddenly opened up in my heart a fresh fear, and I almost fiercely demanded: “Who is my father? Where is he?” She stroked my hair and said: “I’ll tell you about him some day.” I sobbed(抽泣): “I want to know now.” She answered: “No, not now.”
