听力原文:M: Hello, Susan, is it convenient?

W: Yeah, come on and have a seat, Chris. It's an interesting report. There are couple of things I'd like to check with you. You mention several cities you'd like to visit, Guangzhou again, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Fuzhou, Xiamen. My first question is what's the priority.

M: Well, they're all equally important. I think that we should act fast. I think a follow-up visit to Guangzhou is the priority.

W: OK. Next question, when do you want to go there?

M: I've got a lot of deskwork to finish off here. I'd like to go towards the end of the month.

W: If we send you there, would you like to go to other southern cities on the same trip?

M: Yes, certainly. Shenzhen and preferably Zhuhai as well.

W: Why are you so keen on Zhuhai? What's going on there?

M: I've heard that medical facilities are being developed quite fast.

W: Another question, what will happen to our southern business?

M: It will have serious effect on exports, of course. But I don't think we can miss this chance just because of that.

W: Then the question of the attitude. President Li in Xiamen seems very tough. Would they really have cancelled the order if we hadn't delivered on time?

听力原文:(Woman—Susan Man—David)

W: What is so interesting in that book, David?

M: Oh, Susan, it's a book about the changes in weather.

W: We certainly are having different weather this year, aren't we?

M: That's why I borrowed this book from the library. I wanted to read about differences in climate.

W: Does the book talk about cold weather like we've been having?

M: As a matter of fact, it does. It tells how weather seems to come in cycles. There will be periods of very cold winters and very hot summers.

W: Well, we've had both this year, haven't we?

M: Yes, and according to the book, that type of weather will last for several years.

W: Then what happens? Does it just continue to get colder and hotter?

M: No, that was what I was afraid of, but the book says that after the very cold/very hot cycle is over, there will be a time of moderate weather.

W: What do you mean by "moderate"?

M: The book says that the weather will be cold in the winter but not too cold. In the summer, the temperature will not be so high as it was this last summer.

W: Will it last for several years?

M: It seems that it will. It's a cycle, just like we're having now. Then it will go back to the very cold and very hot.

W: I'll look forward to the moderate years, then.

M: Me, too!

听力原文:W: I have been looking through your application. You seem to have many of the qua
lifications needed for this position, especially experience.

M: I have been working in hotels for eight years.

W: That's actually a long time. Were you satisfied with your last position?

M: To be honest, not entirely. The boss was very touchy and hard m get along with. And chances for advancement were very limited.

W: I see. Was it hard work?

M: No, it was an interesting job and I loved meeting people. I know how to handle a bad- tempered guest. But I had an argument with my boss and he just asked me to go. Anyhow I'd like to try something new.

W: But have you ever done anything to do with tour guide?

M: I did work for a short time as a courier for a tour operator, taking foreigners on guided tours of London. Perhaps that's the sort of thing you mean.

W: Yes, I think it is. Do you speak any other languages?

M: Yes, I do. I speak German and Spanish--I spent years abroad when I was young.

W: That's very interesting. Next is the question of salary, of course.

M: Well, I used to get 3,000 yuan monthly, so I couldn't accept less than that.

W: We ask for loyalty and hard work from our employees. But we pay well, and opportunities for promotion depend on merit, not just on age or seniority. I suppose you know that.

M: I am very interested in working for your agency. And I don't mind hard work and working overtime.

W: That's fine. I have a few more applicants to interview today for this position. But at the moment, your chances look very good.

M: I'm glad to hear that. Thank you for your time.

W: Thank you for your coming. We will be in touch with you shortly.

(20)

A.He is satisfied with it.

B.Not totally pleased.

C.It's not hard.

听力原文:M: Susan! Could I have a word with you while you are having your coffee?

W: Of course, David! Let's find a quiet comer over there.

M: The manager asked me to tell you that he appreciated your efforts last year very much.

W: Thanks, David. That makes me feel a lot better. I try my best, you know. You can tell him that I am grateful for his confidence in me.

M: Yes, I'll certainly pass that on to him. Your sales figures for the last two years have been remarkably good.

W: Manchester is a good area to work in. There are a lot of businesses opening all the time. I try to make contact with the managers as soon as I know a new company is starting up. "The early bird catches the worm!" as they say.

M: I'm sure that's true, but there is more to it than that, isn't there. Susan? You seem to be very confident and this helps your sales.

W: Yes, I've been working on that for some time. I think that if I appear confident and successful, people are more likely to buy our goods.

M: Well, you certainly seem successful at that. Your sales figures prove that. I was wondering if you could give a short talk tomorrow afternoon on the idea of being confident as a sales representative. Do you think you could put together something on that topic?

W: I think I could manage. I'll work on it this evening.

M: I would be grateful if you could do that for me. I'm sure the others would benefit from that kind of talk.

W: About how long do you want me to speak for?

M: Something like 20 minutes, if that's all right?

W: And what sort of thing do you want me to talk about?

M: Oh. How to build up your confidence, present yourself to customers, that sort of thing.

W: I'll work on it later then, David.

M: Thanks, Susan...let me take your coffee cup back for you. I think it is about time we got back to the conference.
