听力原文: The food we eat seems to have produced profound effects on our health. Although science has made enormous steps in making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that eight percent of all human illnesses are related to diet and forty percent of cancer is relined to the diet as well, especially cancer of the colon (结肠). Different cultures are more prone to contract certain illness became of the food that is characteristic in these cultures. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, government researchers realized that nitrates (硝酸盐) and nitrites (亚硝酸盐), commonly used to preserve color in meats, and other food additives, caused cancer. Yet, these additives remain in our food, and it becomes more difficult to know which things on the packaging labels of processed foods are helpful or harmful. The additives that we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin to beef and administered to animals not for medical purposes, but for financial reasons. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animal in order to obtain a higher price on the market, Although the Food and Drug Administration has repeatedly tried to control these procedures, the practices continue.

(33)

A.It has made many additives.

B.It has caused most cancers.

C.It makes some cultures more prone to cancer.

D.It has made many foods unfit to eat.

听力原文:M: Hi, Christie, I brought you some tea.

W: Thanks, Mark. Too bad it's not apple tea, like in Turkey.

M: You really liked living in Turkey, didn't you?

W: Yeah, it was great.

M: How do you like the food in Turkey, Christie?

W: Oh, the food was fantastic! But people always expected me to eat too much, and I gained a lot of weight there!

M: Yes, it's so polite to be generous. We think people aren't polite if they don't offer a lot of food.

W: I know. I also learnt that it's not polite for the guest to accept the offer of food at first.

M: Yes, that's definitely true! If you're the guest, you must refuse the first two offers of food.

W: The first time I had dinner at a Turkish home, I felt rude to refuse. So I ate all the food the host offered me.

M: Do you know how to stop the host from offering you food? You must leave some food on your plate. Then the host knows that you're full.

W: Oh, is that the trick? In the United States, we usually eat everything. You don't want the host to think that you don't like the food.

M: That is the difference.

W: Americans think it's not polite to insist. We don't want to force you to eat more if you don't want more.

听力原文: Most ants are hard workers and often work from six in the morning until ten at night. The work is divided among the worker ants so that each one has a certain amount to do. We do not know how they decide what each one is to do, for they do not talk. Some people think ants follow each other by their sense of smell. Ants often live to be a year old, and some have been known to live six or seven years. One way they get their food is from plant insects which we might call their cows. The ants milk these "cows" by tapping the insects gently until a drop of honey comes out. Then they eat the honey. Ants take very good care of these plant insects and often build a covering over them so that they will be protected from the rain.

听力原文:One of the reasons for our success as a species is our ability to eat and thrive

听力原文: One of the reasons for our success as a species is our ability to eat and thrive on a large variety of foods. Many animal species have become extinct or are on the edge of extinction partly because they lack this adaptability. They need to feed on a particular kind of plant or a particular kind of animal or insect. If this source of food is for any reason re- moved, then the animal concerned is unable to change to a different diet. Gradually it becomes extinct. We know that many animal species have died out, but so have some human species such as the early form. of mall that is called Neanderthal man. Perhaps part of the reason for his failure to survive was his lack of adaptability in diet. But modern man is almost entirely free from the limitation of any particular food requirements. We are able to survive on a wide variety of foods both animal and vegetable. For example, the Eskimos are almost totally meat eaters: seal, bear, whale meat and fish form. their whole diet; the Aborigines of Australia, living in dry desert regions, have learnt to survive by making use of forms of insect life as food to supplement their diet of fruits and roots. Men have learnt to survive in the deserts and in dense rain forests; they have learnt to raise domestic animals, which live at high altitudes so that they can inhabit the mountainous regions of the world like Tibet; and they have made the coconut their chief food on the Pacific islands.

(30)

A.It is all ability both man and animals possess.

B.It is the reason for man's superiority over animals.

C.It is one of the reasons for man's success as a species.

D.It is a proof of our superior intelligence.
