听力原文:M: Dr. Brook, I just don't know what's wrong with me. I always feel tired and wea
k. My wife finally persuaded me to visit you to find out what the trouble is.

W: From what is written here I can see that you have a very bad cold three years ago and that you also had a small operation last year. Did you have any bad effect after that?

M: Well, I don't remember.

W: For example, how long did you stay at home each time you are ill?

M: Just a couple of days, but about six months ago I was home for about two weeks with a cold for cold or something.

W: Did you see a doctor at that time, or did you just stay at home?

M: No, I didn't see a doctor. When I began to feel better, I returned to work.

W: And when did you start feeling so tired again?

M: It must have been about ten days ago. When I came home from work one night, there just didn't seem to be any reason to go back the next day.

W: Well, it sounds as if your problem may be the kind of work you do. The test ! just made doesn't show anything really wrong. But I would like to make some further tests in the hospital.

M: That's fine with me.

W: All right, you can check tonight and I'll make the tests tomorrow morning.

Why is the patient seeing the doctor?

A.Because his wife told him to.

B.Because he feels tired.

C.Because his wife feels tired.

听力原文:M: I'm doing some research into the French revolution.

W: Oh, I did some on that last year.

M: Why do you think I'm here! Could you suggest some interesting and useful sources?

W: Sure. I found Voices from the French Revolution by Henri Le Brun to be very useful, as well as extremely interesting and well written.

M: What makes it so good?

W: Well, he took extracts from diaries kept by people involved in the revolution. They really give you an idea of how it felt to live in France during that time.

M: It sounds great. Why haven't I heard of it before?

W: Well, it's only just been translated from the French original and none of the professors have added it to their booklists yet. I used the French version and translated pages myself.

M: I see. I have been told that The French Revolution by Victoria Jones is useful.

W: I didn't find it very useful. I mean, there was nothing in it that you can't find elsewhere. On the other hand, it's cheap, because it's available in paperback, and you can buy it at many bookshops.

M: What about using resources available on the Internet?

W: I used the Internet for my research, but I didn't find it very helpful. Many of the websites were too small to contain much detailed information. Others provided links to other websites, but I found myself spending a lot of time following links and not finding much information.

M: Yes, I've run across that problem myself.

W: You could try the new edition of William Wright's book. It has the same title as Victoria Jones' book. It only came out a couple of months ago and I haven't seen a copy yet. A lot of it has been rewritten or consists of additional material recently found in French archives.

M: Thanks for your help. I'll go to the bookshop and see if I can find the books you've recommended.

W: When does your research have to be completed by?

M: Well, the essay is due in six weeks, so I'll try to finish the research in four, giving me two to write the essay.

W: Good luck!

听力原文:M: I'm sorry. I didn't plan on being this late.

W: Where did you go?

M: North.

W: We'd like a little more to go on, Mike.

M: Ok, I went to Lake Placid (22) .

W: Lake Placid is over two hundred miles away (22) .

M: Which is the reason why I'm so late. Look, I was at college, and me and a couple of the other guys were hanging out at a coffee house discussing philosophy and junk like that (23) when somebody mentioned that they got the first seasons snow on Lake Placid. So since I didn't have an afternoon class, we decided to…

W: You have sociology on Wednesdays.

M: No. I dropped that class weeks ago.

W: You dropped sociology? Do you think that now you're in college, you can do whatever you like, come and go whenever you like, no questions asked?

M: Pretty much, yeah.

W: How do you expect to be awake for economics in 5 hours?

M: Mum, I'm not nearly as irresponsible as you think. It just so happens that I dropped that class two weeks ago too (24) . So, anyway…

W: So you dropped two classes, without even telling me?

M: It's not like I'm keeping it from you. I mean hey, college doesn't mind if I drop a class here or there. My writing professor even told me if I didn't care about his class, don't come.

W: That's it. You're grounded.

M: I'm what?

W: Grounded. Remember, grounded? No dates, no parties, no life (25) .

(26)

B.Because he discussed philosophy with his friends in a coffee house.

C.Because now he is a college student and he can do whatever he likes.

听力原文:W: I'm going to the supermarket to pick up food and drink for Saturday's picnic.
Any suggestions?

M: Well, since everyone has enjoyed the last picnic very much, we can just copy it. How about picking up some hamburgers and hot dogs?

W: Okay, but how much hamburger meat are we going to need? And hot dogs too?

M: Uh. How about three pounds of hamburger and a couple packages of hot dogs?

W: Oh, that's not going to be enough. Do you remember the last picnic we want on? Your roommate, David, ate about ten hamburgers all by himself!

M: You're right. Let's see ahem nine pounds of hamburger meat and, uh..., seven packages of hot dogs.

W: And you'd better pick up some chicken for those who don't like hamburger or hot dogs.

M: Okay. How about five or six bags of potato chips?

W: Humm. Better make that eight or so.

M: Okay. What else? Uh, we're going to need some soft drinks. How about ten of these big 2-litor bottles?

W: Sounds fine, but he sure to buy a variety of drinks.

M: Okay. And what about dessert?

W: Well, maybe we could ask Kathy to make a few cherry pies like she did last time.

M: I wouldn't mind that, but you know, she's been very busy working two jobs, so I'd hate to ask her. Hey, why don't you make some cookies? You could ask Susan, the one that moved in across the street! I bet she'd be willing to help you!
